As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Operations to lead and optimize our lumber yard operations.
Qualifications and
Experience:
5
years of progressive leadership experience in lumber yard operations or a related industry.
Proven track record of driving revenue and profitability in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills; adept at building relationships across the organization.
Extensive experience within the lumber and building materials industry.
Demonstrated operational and financial acumen, with a record of successfully managing budgets, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis.
History of recruiting, retaining, and building high-performing teams.
Experienced in driving change and fostering engagement across multiple organizations.
Proficiency in developing repeatable processes for adoption throughout the organization.
Familiarity with lean and Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
Required to engage in frequent extensive travel to all locations.
Key
Responsibilities:
Operational Strategy and Leadership:
Develop and execute a comprehensive operational strategy that aligns with the company's goals and objectives.
Partnering with the President, the VP of Operations will captain the company pricing strategy to ensure networking capital objectives are met.
Provide visionary leadership to the operations team, inspiring a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with other senior leaders to ensure operational alignment across all departments.
Supply Chain Management:
Oversee inventory management, including procurement, warehousing, and distribution of lumber and building materials.
Implement best practices for demand forecasting, inventory control, and order fulfillment to minimize waste and maximize customer satisfaction.
Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
Process Optimization:
Analyze and streamline operational processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall performance.
Implement lean and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate bottlenecks and optimize workflows.
Continuously monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
Quality Control and Safety:
Establish and enforce quality control standards to ensure the delivery of consistent, high-quality lumber and building materials to customers.
Collaborate with safety teams to maintain a safe working environment for all employees and visitors to the lumber yard.
Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of department managers and operational staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and excellence.
Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
Financial Oversight:
Collaborate with the finance department to develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost reduction within the operations department.
Collaborate with the Human Resources Business Partner to conduct annual market analysis of major competitors, ensuring competitive wages in each location.
Compliance and Regulations:
Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety guidelines.
Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements to keep the company at the forefront of best practices.
Acquisition Strategy and Implementation:
Evaluate potential acquisition opportunities within the industry, conducting due diligence and presenting recommendations to senior leadership.
Develop and execute strategies for successful integration of acquired operations, ensuring alignment with company goals and operational standards.
Relationship Building and Revenue Generation:
Forge strong relationships with vendors, customers, and employees to foster collaboration and mutual success.
Monitor market conditions and industry trends, providing strategic recommendations to sustain growth.
Evaluate acquisition opportunities and recommend strategies to improve gross revenue.
Team Leadership and Development:
Build, retain, and lead a high-performing team of store managers and operational staff.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to ensure professional growth and success within the team.
Collaboration and Goal Achievement:
Collaborate with other company leadership team members to achieve mutual business goals and drive overall company success.
Ensure annual revenue and profitability targets are met through effective budgeting and cost control measures.
Champion of Engagement and Change:
Foster a culture of retention, engagement, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Lead change initiatives to drive operational excellence and adapt to evolving market conditions.
